Heat Stress and Awareness

It is anticipated that Australia will face extreme temperatures up to, and above 40 degrees this week across every state and territory.  The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast daytime temperatures of up to 12 degrees above average and 10 degrees higher than usual at night from today until at least Friday.

Work in these circumstances can pose significant work health and safety risks if not assessed and managed appropriately.

All projects and workplaces should familiarise themselves with the SR Emergency Response and Planning and the additional information contained in our working in weather extremes guide which can be located here.

All projects and workplaces must ensure that ‘working in heat’ is covered in pre-start briefings either today or tomorrow as a minimum. A toolbox talk on heat stress is also available and delivery during this week is strongly encouraged.
